Research Internship at the Institute of Geography of the Republic of Azerbaijan
From December 18 to 23, 2025, the academic staff of the UNESCO Chair on Sustainable Development at the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Sciences— B.E. Shimshikov, T.A. Bazarbayeva, Z.A. Tukenova, G.A. Mukanova, and B.Kh. Tussupova — completed a research internship at the Institute of Geography of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Within the framework of the internship, the participants became acquainted with the scientific and laboratory activities of the institute, took part in field seminars, and studied the types and characteristics of soils in Azerbaijan under natural conditions.

The internship program also included scientific and educational field trips across various regions of the country.During excursions to Absheron–Gobustan and Shamakhi–Gabala, the participants explored the historical, cultural, and natural potential of Azerbaijan, visited the Nasreddin Tusi Shamakhi Astrophysical Observatory, as well as natural sites of the Gabala region, including Lake Nohur.

The field activities contributed to the expansion of interdisciplinary knowledge and the strengthening of academic ties. Upon completion of the internship, all participants were awarded certificates entitled “Sustainable Soil Resource Management and Innovative Approaches in the Context of the SDGs”.

The internship became an important stage in the development of international scientific cooperation and the exchange of experience in the field of sustainable development and soil resource management.
