Water Resilience: The Role of Conscious Consumption in Risk Reduction

On 13 December 2025, as part of the implementation of SDG 6, a round table entitled “Water Resilience: The Role of Conscious Consumption in Risk Reduction” was held at the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Management of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

The main objective of the event was to create an expert platform for discussing current challenges and future perspectives in the management of water and hydrological risks, climate change adaptation, and the enhancement of the resilience of socio-economic systems in the Republic of Kazakhstan. Particular attention was paid to conscious and responsible water use as a key factor in reducing natural and technological risks.

Participants of the round table included representatives of the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Strategic Planning and Operational Management Command Center of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Institute of Geography and Water Security, Taraz National University of Water Management and Irrigation, as well as faculty members and researchers from the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology.

The discussions addressed issues related to the integration of scientific research into risk management practices, the development of early warning systems, the strengthening of institutional resilience, and the improvement of interagency cooperation. The event was conducted at a high professional level and became an important step toward strengthening scientific and practical dialogue on water resilience and conscious use of water resources.
