International Winter School with the Participation of Foreign Students
From January 21 to January 31, 2026, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University successfully hosted an international winter school entitled “Linguistic, Cultural, and Historical Relations between Kazakhstan and Turkey” within the framework of the “Sustainable Development Goals” (SDGs) project – “Partnerships for Achieving the Goals”.
The educational initiative was organized by the academic staff of the Department of Turkology and Eastern Countries of the Faculty of Oriental Studies. At the opening ceremony, the Head of the Department, Associate Professor Agnur Khalel, delivered a welcome speech, emphasizing the importance of close academic cooperation between Kazakhstan and Turkey. She noted that strong scholarly ties between universities of the two countries contribute to elevating collaboration in the fields of education and culture to a new level.
Approximately 40 students from leading universities of the Republic of Turkey, including Istanbul University, Ege University, Ankara University, Eskişehir Osmangazi University, Selçuk University, Anadolu University, and other institutions, took part in the winter school and completed an intensive 10-day educational program.

The main objective of the winter school was to strengthen academic ties between Kazakhstan and Turkey, analyze trends in the development of cultural and historical studies, and expand international cooperation through the exchange of scholarly experience. During the event, pressing academic issues related to the Turkic world were discussed, with particular emphasis placed on enhancing the research potential of young scholars.
The international winter school contributed to deepening friendly relations between the two countries and provided valuable opportunities for professional growth and academic development for young researchers.
