THE CULTURAL EVENT “WORLD HERITAGE OF IRAN” HELD AT THE AT THE FACULTY ORIENTAL STUDIES
On February 11, within the framework of the 17th UN Sustainable Development Goal “Partnerships for the Goals,” a photo exhibition and a traditional music evening titled “World Heritage of Iran” were held at the Faculty of Oriental Studies. The event was organized at the initiative of the Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Almaty and supported by Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The exhibition featured unique Iranian sites included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Guests embarked on a visual journey through the masterpieces of Iranian civilization — from Persepolis to the historical hydraulic system of Shushtar, as well as gardens and ancient caravanserais - discovering the evolution of Iranian architecture and civilization.
The evening was highlighted by a performance from the well-known Iranian musical ensemble “Darvag.” This professional group preserves traditional Iranian music while harmoniously blending it with contemporary musical elements. Some of the instruments performed are included in UNESCO’s list of Iranian heritage.
The most impressive part of the event was the demonstration of “Zurkhaneh” — Iran’s traditional heroic sport, recognized as part of UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage.
This cultural event provided Kazakh intellectuals and students with a unique opportunity to gain deeper insight into Iran’s rich culture, internationally recognized for its significance. Iranian musical instruments and traditional melodies immersed the audience in history and showcased the profound cultural ties between nations.
