Round Table “Ecological Culture and Sustainable Development” Held at the Faculty of Oriental Studies

On February 13, 2026, a round table entitled “Ecological Culture and Sustainable Development” was held at the Faculty of Oriental Studies of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The event focused on fostering environmental awareness among students within the framework of sustainable development principles.

The discussion was organized in line with the global agenda defined by the United Nations and aimed at highlighting the academic community’s contribution to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Particular attention was given to Quality Education (SDG 4), Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG 12), Climate Action (SDG 13), and Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17).

The round table was organized and moderated by Senior Lecturer and Deputy Head of the Far East Department for Research, Innovation, and International Cooperation — Moshqal Madina. She holds a PhD degree and successfully defended her doctoral dissertation on environmental policy and ecological culture in Japan. In her speech, she emphasized the importance of studying Japan’s experience in sustainable development and environmental governance.

Students delivered analytical presentations on environmental policies in Eastern countries, green economy strategies, and the development of ecological culture in contemporary societies. The integration of sustainable development principles into academic programs and research activities was also discussed.

As a result of the round table, participants proposed initiatives aimed at expanding student environmental projects, strengthening research activities, and promoting educational outreach aligned with the SDGs.
