Young Scientists of the Department of Biotechnology Contribute to International Research Activities

27 february, 2026

Faculty members and early-career researchers of the Department of Biotechnology are actively involved in international research projects, promoting the scientific potential of Kazakhstan at the global level.

Ardak Kakimova, Sandugash Sandybaeva, and Yelena Zaparina are currently undertaking a research internship at one of the leading universities in the United States, The Ohio State University, within the framework of the Bolashak International Scholarship Program. Their research is conducted at the Aronoff Laboratory* under the supervision of Professor Patrice Hamel, a specialist in molecular genetics.

The research activities of the scientists cover priority areas of modern biotechnology. In particular, Ardak Kakimova and Sandugash Sandybaeva are working at the intersection of biology and sustainability, focusing on the engineering of photosynthetic microorganisms for the production of next-generation biofuels. Meanwhile, Yelena Zaparina is contributing to research in the field of mitochondrial biology and cellular energy metabolism.

These studies are of significant importance for the development of clean energy sources, the advancement of sustainable biotechnological solutions, and the deepening of fundamental research in molecular genetics.

The Department of Biotechnology takes pride in the achievements of its faculty members and young scientists within the international scientific community and expresses confidence in the further expansion of international research collaboration.
