Strategy for Promotion in International QS and THE Rankings Discussed
A working meeting was held at the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Sciences of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University with the participation of Deputy Heads of Departments and the Deputy Dean for Research, Innovation and International Relations. The meeting focused on the strategic promotion of the Faculty in international QS and Times Higher Education rankings.
During the meeting, participants discussed strategies to improve the Faculty’s performance in the QS World University Rankings, QS by Subject, QS Sustainability Rankings, as well as subject rankings and the THE Impact Rankings. Key indicators influencing ranking positions were analyzed, including Academic Reputation, Employer Reputation, research productivity, citation impact, international collaboration, and sustainability performance.

Special attention was given to bibliometric analysis using SciVal and benchmarking against partner universities. Departments were assigned to strengthen systematic monitoring of publication metrics, analyze trends in subject rankings over recent years, and develop concrete proposals to enhance performance indicators.

The meeting also addressed and updated the action plan for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a key component for improving the University’s standing in the THE Impact Rankings. In particular, integration mechanisms related to SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 14 and SDG 15 (Life Below Water and Life on Land) were discussed within the framework of educational, research, and international activities.
As a result of the meeting, priority objectives for 2026 were defined, and a coordinated framework for advancing the Faculty’s position in international rankings was agreed upon.
