Strengthened Integration of Sustainable Development Courses at the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Sciences
The Faculty of Geography and Environmental Sciences at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University continues its systematic efforts to implement specialized courses aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Faculty ensures comprehensive integration of SDGs into Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral educational programs.
The primary objective of this integration is to develop students’ professional and transferable competencies in the fields of sustainable territorial development, rational natural resource management, climate adaptation, environmental safety, and sustainable socio-economic development.
Within Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral programs, sustainable development principles are embedded in course objectives, intended learning outcomes, thematic modules, project assignments, and research activities.
Bachelor’s Level. At the undergraduate level, sustainable development is implemented through the following core disciplines:
“Ecology and Sustainable Development” – develops ecological thinking and a systemic understanding of the interconnection between nature and society. The course addresses global and regional environmental challenges and pathways toward rational resource use. The discipline belongs to the General Education Cycle (GED), Elective Component (EC), and is available to all first-year students across all educational programs of the Faculty.
