The Faculty of International Relations organized a meeting of international relations students and young scholars of Almaty with A.Kh. Arystanbekova, the first Permanent Representative of Kazakhstan to the United Nations, on March 2, 2026
The Faculty of International Relations actively works on training specialists in the field of international relations, and promoting the activities of the United Nations and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals is one of its priorities.
The Academic Regional UN Information Resource Center at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, operating under the Faculty of International Relations, together with the United Nations Department of Global Communications Representation in Almaty, organized a meeting on March 2, 2026 between international relations students and young scholars of Almaty and A.Kh. Arystanbekova, the first Permanent Representative of Kazakhstan to the United Nations, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Doctor of Historical Sciences, and Professor.
The meeting took place at the UN Plaza building with the support of the youth organization “UN Discussion Club” and brought together international relations students and master’s students from universities across Almaty.
A welcoming speech was delivered by the representative of the United Nations Department of Global Communications in Almaty, Vlastimil Samek, who emphasized the role of the UN’s activities in Kazakhstan and Kazakhstan’s contribution to the work of the Organization. He also highlighted the long-standing contribution of Akmaral Arystanbekova to the development and strengthening of cooperation between Kazakhstan and the United Nations.
The meeting began with the screening of a video about the accession of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the United Nations, which was commented on by A.Kh. Arystanbekova.
In her speech, the first Permanent Representative of Kazakhstan to the United Nations and former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Akmaral Khaydarovna Arystanbekova, emphasized the important aspects of Kazakhstan’s accession to the UN and the significant efforts of Kazakh diplomacy, thanks to which the country достойно entered the global community.
During the discussion, participants asked numerous questions about various aspects of the activities of the United Nations and Kazakhstan’s role within the Organization.
Among the attendees were R.E. Kudaybergenova, Vice-Rector for Science of AlmaU University; O.N. Shkapyak, Dean of the Faculty of World Politics at the Kazakh-German University; T.A. Saiburova, Director of V.G. Belinsky Secondary School-Gymnasium in Kaskelen; as well as representatives of the academic staff of the Abylai Khan Kazakh University of International Relations and World Languages, among others.
Students and master’s students of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University prepared a video reflecting Kazakhstan’s role as a responsible and reliable partner in international relations. They expressed their gratitude to A.Kh. Arystanbekova for establishing the Academic Regional UN Information Center at the Faculty of International Relations of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University in 2012, which serves as a platform for international relations students interested in the activities of the United Nations.
Students of the Faculty of International Relations at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University also performed a dance in support of the activities of the United Nations, dedicating it to peace and stability around the world.
The moderator and chief organizer of the meeting was L.F. Delovarova, Director of the Center.
This event became an excellent opportunity for international relations students to learn about the historical milestones of Kazakh diplomacy and to expand their knowledge about Kazakhstan’s cooperation with the United Nations, the leading universal international organization.
