Supporting science is a strategic direction for national development (SDG 4 – Quality Education, SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure).
An interview with Yergali Kurmanov, a lecturer at the Department of Electronics and Astrophysics, has been published on the “Qazaq Uni” information portal. The interview focuses on government support for science and the increasing level of funding allocated to scientific research in Kazakhstan. During the interview, Yergali Kurmanov discussed the current state of scientific development in the country and highlighted the key directions of state policy aimed at strengthening the national research system. According to him, in recent years the funding allocated to scientific research has been gradually increasing, creating new opportunities for scientists and research institutions. The growth of research funding plays an important role in improving the quality of scientific studies and expanding the scope of research activities. Increased financial support enables researchers to conduct both fundamental and applied studies, develop innovative technologies, and participate in international scientific collaborations. Particular attention in the interview was given to the expansion of grant-based and program-targeted funding mechanisms. These instruments are considered essential for supporting scientific initiatives and ensuring sustainable development of research projects. Through these funding mechanisms, scientists are able to implement promising research ideas and contribute to technological and scientific progress. Yergali Kurmanov also emphasized the importance of systematic and long-term support for science. Stable investment in scientific research helps create a strong research environment and promotes the development of innovative solutions. In the context of global scientific competition, investment in research and innovation becomes a key factor for technological advancement and economic growth. Another important issue discussed in the interview is the support provided to young scientists. Various programs aimed at supporting early-career researchers have been introduced in recent years. These include research grants, academic internships, and participation in international scientific projects. Such initiatives help young researchers gain valuable experience and contribute to the development of new scientific directions. In addition, the increase in funding has a positive impact on the modernization of research infrastructure. Universities and research institutions now have greater opportunities to upgrade laboratory equipment, establish modern research facilities, and implement scientific results in industry and practical applications. Overall, the increasing level of investment in science strengthens the research potential of universities, improves the competitiveness of national science, and contributes to the development of an innovation-driven economy in Kazakhstan.
