Meeting Between the Faculty of Oriental Studies and the R.B. Suleimenov Institute of Oriental Studies within the Framework of SDG 17
On March 13, 2026, a landmark working meeting was held at the R.B. Suleimenov Institute of Oriental Studies between the Institute's leadership and a delegation from the Faculty of Oriental Studies of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. This event was organized to significantly deepen scientific and academic interaction and to consolidate efforts in the field of modern Oriental studies.
The meeting took place as part of the implementation of UN Sustainable Development Goal 17 — "Partnerships for the Goals," highlighting the commitment of both organizations to creating strong institutional ties to address global educational and scientific challenges.
Key figures from both sides (15 people in total) participated in the discussion:
- From the Institute: Director of the Institute, Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor D. Mäsimkhanuly; Deputy Directors; and heads of leading scientific departments.
- From the University: Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Professor M.Sh. Egamberdiyev; Deputy Deans; Heads of Departments; and representatives of the leading teaching staff.
During a constructive dialogue, the parties discussed in detail the prospects for the synergy of academic resources. Particular emphasis was placed on integrating scientific potential to implement breakthrough
The following areas of partnership were considered during the meeting:
- Collective Research Initiatives: The development and launch of joint scientific projects dedicated to pressing issues in modern Oriental studies to strengthen the link between fundamental academic science and university education.
- Scientific Communication Platform: Organizing and hosting joint international conferences, symposia, and expert roundtables for active experience exchange and building professional dialogue at regional and global levels.
- Publishing and Publications: Forming joint working groups to prepare high-impact articles for international databases such as Scopus and Web of Science, as well as publishing collective monographs and specialized scientific collections.
- Human Capital Development: Detailed discussion on the prospects of creating a joint dissertation council, which will serve as a catalyst for training a new generation of young scientists and ensure the continuity of scientific schools.

The participants unanimously noted that pooling expert resources is essential for the qualitative development of both fundamental and applied research. Special attention was paid to supporting doctoral students and young researchers who require expanded opportunities for the international approbation of their work.
"This meeting has laid a solid foundation for a long-term institutional partnership. We are moving from declarations of intent to specific roadmaps for joint work," it was emphasized during the summary of the results.
Following the meeting, the parties reached agreements on the further development of cooperation, the implementation of joint scientific projects, and the organization of scientific events.

The meeting resulted in the formation of new directions for interaction between the Faculty of Oriental Studies of Al-Farabi KazNU and the R.B. Suleimenov Institute of Oriental Studies. This will contribute to the development of scientific research, the training of highly qualified specialists, the strengthening of academic partnerships in Oriental studies, and the enhancement of the position of Kazakhstani Oriental science on the international stage.
