Revival of National Fashion: Ethno-Style at KazNU

At the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, in the Central Museum, a presentation of national clothing titled “Kazakh Clothing as a Reflection of National Culture” was held as part of the Nauryznama decade, dedicated to March 18 – the National Clothing Day.

During the event, collections by local designers “Anar Sän” and “Alasha” were presented, showcasing a harmonious blend of traditional motifs with contemporary fashion trends. Participants were introduced to the features of national costume design and the meanings behind traditional ornaments. In addition, an exhibition of traditional attire was organized, allowing guests to gain a deeper understanding of the rich cultural heritage of the Kazakh people.

As part of the event, international designer Raushan Anuarbekova conducted a catwalk (defile) masterclass for students. She is widely recognized for successfully combining national elements with modern design in her work and for presenting her collections on international fashion platforms, including Paris and Milan Fashion Week. During the masterclass, she shared her professional experience and explained the integration of national style into the contemporary fashion industry.

 During the session, students learned the fundamentals of stage movement, walking techniques, and image-building for the runway. Participants showed great interest, gained new knowledge and practical skills, and expressed their satisfaction with taking part in the event.

The event, held within the framework of the Nauryznama, aimed to promote national values and increase young people’s interest in cultural heritage.

At the conclusion of the event, Zhuldyz Dapenovna Yesimova, Director of the Department of Social and Educational Work, presented letters of appreciation on behalf of the Chairman of the Board – Rector of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Zhanseit Tuimebayev, to designer Raushan Abdullakyzy, author of the “Alasha” collection, and Anargul Zhamankulkyzy, author of the “Anar Sän” collection, for their contribution to the development of national fashion and the promotion of Kazakh style.
