The rising prevalence of extremism and terrorism among the youth
Resource Center for American and Democratic Studies and Resource Information Centre on NATO at al-Farabi Kazakh National University held the Regional Youth Forum «The rising prevalence of extremism and terrorism among the youth of Central Asian states from the viewpoint of Central Asian young intellectuals»
The growth of religious-based extremism and the threat of terrorism in Central Asia directly affects the youth living in the region, a demographic representing approximately 50% of the overall population. According to experts’ estimates, extremism is more frequently exacerbated in younger generations. The project aim is to identify high-potential proposals about why these types of organizations are attracting the youth of the region from participants (students from different regions of Kazakhstan and other Central Asian countries).
The purpose of the Forum is an open exchange of views of participants from different regions of Kazakhstan and Central Asian countries for the propagation ideas of terrorism and religious extremism among Central Asian youth. In the framework of the Forum, participants will be given the opportunity to attend lectures of the leading experts from Kazakhstan, the United States and France, to discuss the reasons of the involvement of youth in the region to terrorist and extremist organizations and movements; to develop project ideas, to publish an article in the Forum sourcebook.
Forum participants are presented by BA? MA and PhD students from the universities of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
