On November 23, 2023, the Al-Farabi Library hosted an international scientific and practical conference “GEOGRAPHICAL FOUNDATIONS OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT”, dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Management and the Department of Geography, Land Management and Cadastre, as well as the anniversaries of Professors A.T. Temirbekov and Sh.M. Nadyrov.

At the opening of the conference, Member of the Board - Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of Al-Farabi KazNU Erkinbaeva Lyazzat Kalymbekovna congratulated the staff of the faculty, department, professors Amangeldy Tazhievich and Sheripzhan Marupovich on their anniversary and thanked them for their work and contribution to geographical science.

In order to congratulate the faculty, department and anniversaries, the conference was attended by: Chairman of the Board of JSC “Institute of Geography and Water Security”, Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Professor, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences Medeu Akhmetkal Rakhmettulaevich, Dean of Natural Sciences of the Eurasian National University named after Gumilyov Berdenov Zharas Galimzhanovich, head of the department Physical and Economic Geography of the Eurasian National University named after Gumilyov Ramazanova Nurgul Esenovna, Director of the Institute of Natural Sciences and Geography of the Kazakh National Pedagogical University named after Abai Kaimuldinova Kulyash Duisenbaevna, members of the teaching staff of the Tashkent State Pedagogical University named after. Dean of the Faculty, Candidate of Geographical Sciences, Associate Professor Aliya Sagynikivna Aktymbaeva expressed warm wishes to the department and noted that she makes a great contribution to the development of the university and the country in the field of science and innovation.

After the plenary session and congratulations, breakout sessions were held in the following areas:

- Socio-economic, demographic and geopolitical factors of sustainable development;

- Physico-geographical, geo-ecological aspects of sustainable development and environmental management;

- Research, technology and innovation in the field of land management and cadastre;

- Scientific research in the field of water resources and climate change;

- Recreational and tourism potential in the context of sustainable tourism development;

- Cartography, GIS technologies and EMS for sustainable development;

- Current problems of geographical knowledge and methodology in secondary and higher education.

Topics discussed at breakout sessions are aimed at solving current problems of geography and sustainable development. The main objective of the conference is to exchange experience in scientific research and discuss theoretical and applied problems of sustainable development at the present time.

The conference was attended by well-known scientists and practitioners, domestic and foreign universities and research institutes, including special mention should be made of the reports of a specialist in Islamic finance Ahmad Afandi Mahfudza, Vergun Alexei Petrovich, Karamatova Dilfuza Sadinovna teacher of the department "Pedagogy of primary classes" of Tashkent State Pedagogical University named after Nizami and Professor Abubakirova Kalkash Daurenbekovna, the reports of master's and doctoral students Zhakupova Aknur, Tolekov Zangar, Ayazbaeva Ulpan should be especially noted.
