OUR EXPERIENCE OF ACADEMIC MOBILITY AT ESKIŞEHIR OSMANGAZI UNIVERSITY TURKEY
We Assel Salimbay, Albina Muratova, Shakipzada Ingkar and Arlan Aner, as four Oriental Studies students from Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, our experience studying in Eskişehir, Turkey, during the period from 19th of February and 5th of July 2024 through a student exchange program has been transformative.
This opportunity allowed us to immerse ourselves in the rich cultural and linguistic tapestry of Turkey, significantly enhancing our understanding and proficiency in the Turkish language. Our time at Eskişehir Osmangazi University was not just an academic pursuit but a profound journey of personal and cultural discovery.
Engaging with local students, attending lectures, and participating in cultural activities provided us with ample opportunities to practice and refine our Turkish. The academic rigor at Eskişehir Osmangazi University, coupled with the support of dedicated faculty, furthered our linguistic competence, enabling us to engage in complex discussions and scholarly debates with increasing confidence.
Living in Eskişehir, we were exposed to the daily life, traditions, and social dynamics of Turkish society. We witnessed firsthand the warmth and hospitality of the Turkish people, which resonated with the values of community and respect ingrained in our own Kazakh culture. This cultural immersion allowed us to draw meaningful parallels between the customs and traditions of our respective nations, fostering a greater appreciation for the shared heritage and values of the Turkic peoples.
Our journey also included an exploration of Turkey’s rich historical and folk heritage. Eskişehir, with its blend of modernity and tradition, served as an excellent base for our historical inquiries. We visited museums, ancient ruins, and cultural festivals, gaining insights into the intricate tapestry of Turkey’s history. These experiences broadened our perspective on the region’s historical narratives and the enduring influence of its cultural legacy.
We express our deepest gratitude to Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and Eskişehir Osmangazi University for facilitating this enriching experience. The academic exchange program not only enhanced our academic and linguistic skills but also allowed us to forge lasting friendships and build cross-cultural connections.
