Towards Enhancing Legal Literacy Among Youth

1 october, 2024

On October 2, 2024, at 11:00 AM, A.K. Sakhaeva, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics for Academic and Educational Work, B.K. Abenov, Senior Adviser of the Faculty, and 50 second-year students participated in an important event organized by the Almaty City Police Department. The meeting took place in Conference Room #416 of the "Al-Farabi" Library and was dedicated to raising legal awareness among students of educational institutions in Almaty.

The main purpose of the event was to inform young people about legal aspects related to issues such as extortion, hooliganism, and bullying. During the meeting, students received valuable knowledge and recommendations on how to properly respond to potential threats and offenses, as well as how to protect their rights.

This initiative plays a significant role in shaping legal consciousness among students and contributes to creating a safer educational environment. Participation in such events not only strengthens discipline but also fosters a sense of responsibility among young people.

Moreover, the event is directly related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). SDG 4 – “Quality Education” – aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education for all and promote lifelong learning opportunities. This event supports this goal by enhancing legal awareness and educating students on safe and law-abiding behavior in society. SDG 16 – “Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions” – focuses on promoting peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, providing access to justice for all, and building effective, accountable, and inclusive institutions at all levels. The event supports this goal by informing young people about their rights and the law, as well as by promoting the rule of law and increasing safety among students, which is a crucial step in creating a safe environment for all citizens.

“We are confident that such meetings not only enhance legal literacy but also foster a culture of mutual assistance and support among students,” noted A.K. Sakhaeva.

The participants expressed their gratitude to the organizers for the opportunity and noted that the knowledge gained would help them not only in their studies but also in life. The Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics will continue to actively participate in such initiatives, aiming to create a safe and legally conscious youth environment in Kazakhstan.
