    On October 16, 2024, as part of the implementation of SDG 16, was held a meeting  in office 305 at 12:00, organized by lecturers Atakhanova S.K., Candidate of Legal Sciences and Associate Professor, and Asanova S.E., PhD, of the Department of Civil Law, Civil Procedure, and Labor Law. The guest speaker was Ulbara Akmatovna Dzhiirembayeva, President of the NGO Youth Lawyers Association "Human and Law." The meeting was for 4th-year students and focused on the topic "Choosing a Profession: Mediation in Kazakhstan (Development and Experience)."

    Mediation is a new form of alternative dispute resolution involving a third, neutral, impartial party who is not involved in the conflict. This mediator helps the disputing parties or those involved in a legal case reach an agreement. The parties maintain full control over the decision-making process and the terms of the dispute resolution.

Mediation can be used in civil, labor, family, and other legal disputes, as well as in criminal cases of minor and medium severity. Widespread use of mediation by both individuals and legal entities can significantly reduce the burden on the judicial system, thereby improving the quality of decisions in major cases. According to international statistics, 30-40% of all disputes go through mediation, with positive results achieved in 85% of cases.

In Kazakhstan, the Law on Mediation came into force on August 5, 2011. This law regulates public relations in the field of mediation in Kazakhstan, defines its principles and procedures, and establishes the status of mediators.

The fundamental principles of mediation are:
- Voluntariness;
- Confidentiality;
- Mutual respect;
- Equality of the parties;
- Neutrality and impartiality of the mediator;
- Transparency of the procedure.

During the meeting, students actively discussed cases and practice-related questions with the guest speaker and expressed their gratitude for the engaging presentation.
