SDG 17. THE STUDY OF LITERATURE AND FOLKLORE
On October 17, 2024, in Dormitory 17, the 4th year of group 404 majoring in 6B01701 – "Kazakh language and literature" at the Faculty of philology of Al-Farabi KazNU organized a research work on the topic: "Study of literature and folklore". The event was focused on writing scientific papers and developing research skills of young scientists and was held as a discussion.
The event aimed at promoting the fact that the sources of national education are folklore, oral literature, national literature, customs, traditions, traditions, folk customs, oratorical words, proverbs and sayings. The event also showed that the main manifestations of national spiritual values can be seen through the works of the thinkers who were born in our native land. Kazakhs are the people who know and revere the word. These are people who perfectly understands its deep meaning. The words that come from the old and respected people have become the role model and the helper in educating young generations.
Moreover, the old people always say sayings, proverbs or speeches that will be of a great significance. Like other types of folklore, proverbs are a folk textbook or a commandment.
They educate young people and warn them against evil. First of all, they instill simplicity, orderliness, love to labour, and courage. Proverbs praise and promote honesty, humanity and crtisize unacceptable behavior such as dishonesty, neglect, lies-gossip, laziness and theft.
Proverbs are a folk art. However each proverb becomes the property of the people and turns into the works of folklore (oral literature). People often call them "folk wisdom". In ancient Turkic languages, it is called the "word of the grandfathers", which means a treasure that is passed from grandfather to child.
Proverbs are a folklore genre. In this regard, proverbs, firstly, preserve the features of oral folk literature, and secondly, penetrate into modern written literature without any changes in its vernacular form.
One of the oldest genres of Kazakh folklore, proverbs and sayings are considered the legacies that give a lot of information about the past life of our ancestors. People summarize everything experienced by them for centuries in sayings and proverbs and offer their descendants "ninety spoken words."
Proverbs are not only the fruits of an epoch, they are closely connected with the history of the people. We know that proverbs are a precious treasure of the people, which has been passed down from grandfather to child for centuries.
At the end of the event, the students of the group performed folk songs on the dombra.
