KazNU and Lithuania strengthen cooperation in science and education
On November 21, 2024, an important meeting was held at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University in Almaty, during which the Director of the Department of International Cooperation of the University Esbol Omirzhanov met with the Counselor of the Consulate of the Republic of Lithuania in Almaty, Mr. Liudas Subačius.
The event began with a welcoming speech by Esbol Omirzhanov, who noted the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation between Kazakhstan and Lithuania. He emphasized the role of higher education institutions in expanding international ties, developing scientific cooperation and educational programs. In his speech, he also noted that such meetings contribute to the creation of new opportunities for students and teachers of both countries.
On behalf of Al-Farabi KazNU, the event was attended by Dean of the Mechanics and Mathematics Faculty Nursultan Doszhan, Dean of the Faculty of International Relations Zhuldyz Sairambayeva, and Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Information Technology Svetlana Leonidovna Peshaya. All of them expressed their readiness to expand academic and scientific cooperation with Lithuanian universities.
Then the floor was given to the Advisor of the Consulate of the Republic of Lithuania in Almaty, Mr. Liudas Subačius, who noted the importance of developing partnerships in higher education, as well as supporting students of both countries through educational programs and initiatives. He emphasized the need to strengthen ties in business, science and education, which contributes to strengthening mutual understanding and friendship between Kazakhstan and Lithuania.
The Lithuanian delegation also included Deputy Director of the National Student Support Center of Lithuania, Ms. Gražina Kaklauskienė, Deputy Dean of Vilnius Gediminas Technical University, Ms. Viliune Lapinskienė, and Manager of the Department of International Relations of Vilnius University, Ms. Amira Ohtova. Particular attention was paid to the Erasmus student exchange program and possible cooperation in scientific research and business projects.
During the meeting, the parties discussed further deepening cooperation in science, education, and business. An important element of the discussion was the development of student and teacher exchange, as well as the integration of educational programs through initiatives such as Erasmus and other international programs. Participants also considered opportunities for exchanging experience and knowledge between universities and research centers of Kazakhstan and Lithuania.
The meeting was closely linked to the implementation of several Sustainable Development Goals. In particular, the discussions were aimed at achieving SDG 4: Quality Education, as they contribute to expanding opportunities for students and teachers, improving educational programs and developing scientific exchanges. In addition, the participation of representatives of Vilnius Technical University and other educational organizations confirms the contribution to SDG 17: Partnership for the Goals, strengthening international cooperation, knowledge sharing and experience. The issues raised during the meeting are also consistent with SDG 10: Reduce inequalities, ensuring equal access of students and teachers to educational and scientific opportunities, especially through exchange programs.
At the end of the meeting, all participants expressed hope for further expansion of the partnership and the creation of new educational initiatives aimed at strengthening ties between Kazakhstan and Lithuania and developing long-term cooperation.
