The presidents of the two countries inaugurated a branch of KazNU
The President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, and the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, officially inaugurated a branch of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University at the Dostoevsky Omsk State University. This historic event was made possible as part of the state visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Kazakhstan.
The ceremonial event was also attended by the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Sayasat Nurbek; the Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, Konstantin Mogilevsky; the Chairman of the Board and Rector of KazNU, Zhanseit Tuymebayev; and the Rector of Omsk State University, Sergey Zamyatin.
The President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, said at the meeting of the National Council for Science and Technology: "The country's leading universities and branches of foreign universities must promptly train scientists and qualified specialists for the priority sectors of our economy."
Sayasat Nurbek and Konstantin Mogilevsky addressed the Presidents of the two states: "Highly esteemed Vladimir Vladimirovich, highly esteemed Kassym-Jomart Kemelovich! The establishment of a branch of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University at Fyodor Dostoevsky Omsk State University has been finalized. The branch is ready for inauguration."
The Rector of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Zhanseit Tuymebayev, and the Rector of Fyodor Dostoevsky Omsk State University, Sergey Zamyatin, jointly unveiled the plaque bearing the name of the Al-Farabi KazNU branch.
The admission of applicants to the branch of Kazakhstan's first university in Russia is scheduled for September 2025. The governments of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation have allocated 200 scholarships for student education.
The KazNU branch will offer bachelor's and master's degree programs in disciplines such as International Law, Kazakh Philology, and Customs Affairs. In the future, the possibility of implementing dual-degree educational programs will be considered.
Education at the branch will be conducted in Kazakh, Russian, and English by faculty members from KazNU and Omsk State University, with plans to involve international scholars as well.
The new branch of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University is located on the 6th floor of the main building of Fyodor Dostoevsky Omsk State University at 6 Frunze Street. The total area covers 1,620 square meters. Currently, 10 classrooms have been prepared and equipped for educational and methodological activities, including the Ch. Valikhanov Customs Affairs classroom, the Abai Kazakh Language classroom, and the N. Torekulov International Law classroom. Additionally, there are 5 offices for administration and faculty, 7 lecture halls, and coworking centers.
The establishment of a branch of Kazakhstan's leading university in the Russian Federation fosters further collaboration and the development of the scientific and educational potential of both countries within the framework of Eurasian integration.
It is worth noting that Omsk State University is a multifunctional educational, research, and cultural-educational complex that provides professional training and retraining in a wide range of fields based on cutting-edge scientific projects. Founded in 1973, Fyodor Dostoevsky Omsk State University currently employs 1,056 faculty and staff and educates 5,740 students. The university comprises 9 faculties.
