The Turkic World of Eurasia (V-XIV centuries) based on Western historical and archival sources and materials of the Vatican
Al-Farabi Kazakh National University hosted an international scientific and practical conference titled "Turkic World of Eurasia." The event was dedicated to the 75th anniversary of Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Kalkaman Zhumagulov.
At the opening of the conference, Dosbol Baigonaqov, Dean of the Faculty of History, delivered a congratulatory speech and highlighted the scientist's achievements.
Kalkaman Tursynuly is an honorary academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, a professor at the Department of World History, Historiography and Source Studies of KazNU, director of the Republican Scientific Center for the Study of World History, professor at the University of Göttingen, and holder of the Order of "Kurmet."
The scientist began his career in 1972 as a teacher at the Department of General History at KazMU. To date, he has gone through the stages of professional growth from assistant, head of the department, professor, dean of the faculty to academician.
Talgat Mekebayev, chairman of the "Parasat" trade union, candidate of historical sciences, and associate professor, noted the significant achievements of Professor K. Zhumagulov, the only scientist in the country who is a six-time recipient of the DAAD (Germany) international grant.
Kalkaman Tursynuly is the first Kazakh historian-medievalist and the author of about 500 works. Under his leadership, 16 candidate dissertations, 8 doctoral dissertations (PhD), and many other master's dissertations were defended.
At the plenary session, the head of the Department of World History, Historiography and Source Studies of KazNU, candidate of historical sciences, Professor Ryskeldi Myrzabekova, the head of the Department of History of Kazakhstan at the same university, doctor of historical sciences, Professor Bereket Karibayev, the head of the Department of Archeology, Ethnology and Museology Rinat Zhumataev, and others spoke.
As part of the conference, there was a presentation of the book "Gibratty Ghumyr" ("Exemplary Life") published by the Kazakh University publishing house, dedicated to the 75th anniversary of Professor Kalkaman Zhumagulov, and a round table on "Turkic World of Eurasia (V-XIV centuries) based on the materials of the Vatican and Western historical archives."
The participants of the scientific meeting discussed other relevant topics of historical science, such as "Eurasian World: from the early Turks to the Jochi Ulus" and "World Community and Kazakhstan in the context of modern integration and modernization." The international scientific and practical conference "Turkic World of Eurasia" was held within the framework of the project "Turkic World of Eurasia (V-XIV centuries) based on the materials of the Vatican and Western historical archives."
