INTERNATIONAL ROUND TABLE IN THE FRAMEWORK OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS 5.1, 5.2 AND 16.0: COMBATTING GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE – A CROSS-SDG APPROACH
On December 7, 2024, an international round table was held on the online platform Zoom under the leadership of PhD, Senior Lecturer A.A. Otynshiyeva and PhD, Associate Professor Z.M. Baimagambetova of the Department of International Law.
The event was held within the framework of the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals No. 5 and No. 16 - Gender Equality and Peace, Justice and Effective Institutions. It was attended by students and master's students of the Faculty of International Relations of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, master's students of the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, and students of the University of Le Havre, France. The main topic of the round table was "COMBATTING GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE: A CROSS-SDG APPROACH", which aroused great interest among all participants.
The central part of the online meeting was a presentation on how cultural and traditional norms affect the problem of gender-based violence. Issues such as economic dependence and its role in maintaining violent relationships, the effectiveness of national and international legislation on protection against gender-based violence, the role of state and non-governmental organizations in combating violence were considered, accompanied by an active discussion with the participants.
Particular attention was drawn to the speeches of foreign students studying at the University of Le Havre. At the end of the round table, certificates were awarded to the most active participants.
The event was a success, becoming an educational and productive platform for the exchange of ideas. Participants received valuable knowledge and new experience, making the round table a memorable event.
