At the Faculty of International Relations, the international agenda on human rights was discussed in the context of the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.

On December 11, 2024, at 11:00 AM, the Faculty of International Relations at al-Farabi Kazakh National University held an international round table dedicated to Human Rights Day and the conclusion of the international campaign "16 Days Against Gender-Based Violence."

Human Rights Day is celebrated annually on December 10th, starting from 1948, when the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted. This day symbolizes the commitment to protecting the rights and freedoms of every individual, as well as the need for equality and justice in the world.

The event was also dedicated to summarizing the results of the "16 Days Against Gender-Based Violence" international campaign, which aims to raise awareness about gender-based violence and highlight the importance of combating this issue.

The round table was opened by Gulnara Serikbaevna Baikushikova, Head of the Department of International Relations and World Economy at al-Farabi KazNU, who emphasized the role of human rights and the fight against violence towards women in modern international processes, research, and overall sustainable development.

During the round table, Vlastimil Samek, a representative of the UN Department of Global Communications in Almaty, spoke about the importance of youth engagement and the active role of UN agencies in advancing the global human rights agenda, particularly the significance of the "16 Days Against Gender-Based Violence" campaign.

Delovarova Leila Fedorovna  highlighted the importance of the academic and student community in advancing the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and in shaping a new agenda to achieve sustainable outcomes.

Second- and third-year students presented their projects and showcased videos prepared for the event.

The round table addressed current issues in human rights protection, summarized the results of the international campaign, and discussed significant initiatives in the area of gender equality both at the international level and within Kazakhstan. Participants paid particular attention to the importance of implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 4 “Quality Education,” SDG 5 “Gender Equality,” and SDG 16 “Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions.”

The discussions during the round table provided a deeper understanding of the importance of protecting the rights and freedoms of every individual in the context of global challenges.
