The National Bank's New Statement on the Tenge Exchange Rate

On December 6, 2024, the Department of Economics at the Higher School of Economics and Business hosted a roundtable discussion titled "The National Bank's New Statement on the Tenge Exchange Rate". The event was organized by third-year economics students and their advisor G.T. Yesengeldiyeva, as part of SDG 8: "Decent Work and Economic Growth."
Objective of the event: To analyze the well-being of the tenge exchange rate in Kazakhstan, assess its impact on the economy, and identify the factors driving exchange rate fluctuations.
Key findings presented by the students:
- As of November 2024, the tenge depreciated by 5%, reaching 512.52 KZT per US dollar.
- The average daily trading volume on the Kazakhstan Stock Exchange (KASE) decreased from $278 million to $262 million over the month.
- The total trading volume amounted to $5.5 billion.
