French language lessons at the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics

21 january, 2025

Starting from January 20, 2025, French language lessons for master's students enrolled in the double degree program will resume at the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. This project is being implemented in collaboration with the Kazakhstan-French Geoenergy Center and the University Agency of the Francophonie, as part of the program "Development of Science in French in Central and Eastern Europe."

The double degree program offers students the opportunity to obtain two diplomas – one from a Kazakhstani university and one from a foreign university, which significantly enhances their competitiveness in the international job market. Proficiency in French has become an essential tool for scientific communication and collaboration with universities in France and other Francophone countries. Classes with instructor Lucas Dalush cover grammar, vocabulary, and specialized topics, helping students develop skills in academic and technical language, which facilitates successful integration into the international academic community. This process aligns with SDG 4 (Quality Education), improving the quality of education and creating new opportunities for students.

Additionally, this year, 4th-year undergraduate students interested in applying to foreign universities have joined the course. Knowledge of French is an important advantage for them when applying and studying abroad, which relates to SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), opening new career prospects and adapting students to international standards.

The project is supported by the University Agency of the Francophonie, which provides KazNU with access to educational materials and methodological resources, contributing to the enhancement of students' linguistic training. This collaboration helps broaden their knowledge in science and technology, using the French language as a tool for international research and interaction with peers. Such partnerships contribute to the achievement of SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), strengthening international ties and facilitating knowledge exchange with leading scientific and educational institutions.

The French language training project at KazNU continues to develop, with plans to expand the courses and deepen cooperation with universities in France. This will create additional opportunities for students to participate in scientific projects and internships abroad, supporting long-term partnerships for achieving sustainable development goals.
