Eradicating Poverty as a Step Towards Sustainable Development

On  January 28, 2025, the  first-year students of the Department of Foreign Philology and Translation Studies of  the Faculty of Philology of Farabi Kazakh National University organized an event on the topic: «Eradicating Poverty as a Step Towards Sustainable Development» in the 17th dormitory within the framework of  SDG 1 «No Poverty.» During the event,  the students discussed key  the aspects of combating poverty,  the ways to ensure a decent standard of living for all, and the role of universities and youth organizations in addressing these global challenges.

         The event became an important step in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and provided a platform for  the students to express their ideas and proposals on poverty eradication.  The participants presented their research and projects dedicated to effective methods of overcoming poverty and discussed how universities and youth initiatives can contribute to reducing poverty both locally and globally.

         KazNU actively supports independent student unions, which play a crucial role in organizing such events, protecting students' rights, and promoting their involvement in social and public processes. The university adheres to the principles of academic freedom, allowing students and faculties  to choose their research topics and openly discuss issues related to poverty, social justice, and sustainable development. Internal university procedures are aimed at fostering collaboration with local and national stakeholders, including government authorities and civil society organizations, enabling the implementation of best practices and addressing pressing social issues.

         The event, organized by the students, became a vivid example of youth engagement in solving global issues and promoting sustainable development values. It demonstrated the active civic position of  the students and their desire to  create  a world free from poverty and social inequality.
