In support of the UNESCO and World Meteorological Organization (WMO) initiative to launch the International Year of Glacier Conservation in 2025, the Council of Young Scientists of the Faculty of Geography and Nature Management organized a hike to the Bogdanovich Glacier. The Bogdanovich Glacier lies in a valley located south of the Talgar Pass, between two spurs of the Ile Alatau. The length of the valley from the Talgar Pass to the ridge closing the valley from the south is 4 km. The height of the closing ridge is 3900-4100 m above sea level. The glacier is named after Karl Bogdanovich, a professor of geology who studied the earthquake that occurred in Verny in 1910.

Lecturers Ruslan Baiburiyev, Zhanar Raimbekova and doctoral student Aibek Merekeyev shared their research. This event aims to raise public awareness of the critical role of glaciers in the climate system and the hydrological cycle, as well as to address the urgent problems caused by the accelerated melting of glaciers (SDG 13 - Climate Action).
