On February 3, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., there was meeting at the Department of Turkology and Language Theory of the Faculty of Philology at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. It was dedicated to the speech by the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, at the extended session of the Government. During the event, the opinions were expressed on the issues raised by the President, including improving citizens' well-being, diversifying the economy, developing infrastructure, extensively implementing digital technologies, advancing energy and establishing a nuclear cluster, increasing the potential of the agro-industrial sector, reforming tax and budget policies, securing financial sources for key projects, regulating the social support system, and further developing the fields of healthcare, education, and science.
It was noted that the implementation of all existing technologies especially artificial intelligence (AI) in various sectors can reduce the workforce. The importance of maintaining both the pace and the quality of reforms in science and higher education was emphasized, as well as the need for the Government to control the allocation of educational grants based on university rankings, which is considered a positive measure.
In recent years, the amount of state funding allocated to science has significantly increased, highlighting the need for fair decision-making in project approvals and the proper allocation of financial resources. It will result in directing budgetary funding exclusively to universities, institutes, and researchers conducting high-quality and in-demand studies.
For scholars, the primary goal is to enhance the global competitiveness of Kazakhstan's education and science. A proposal was made to develop a new approach to fostering education and science and to increase governmental support in this area. The objectives set by the President are being fully implemented at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University now. The university’s core principle is to provide students with an education that meets modern requirements while also supporting their social well-being. Today, this prestigious institution is not only an educational establishment but also a major scientific research center. As the country's leading university, ranked among the best globally, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University continues to make a substantial contribution to the comprehensive development of education and science, which remains a collective mission for all its scholars.
