On February 6, 2025, the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Almaty hosted a ceremony for awarding the international scholarship from the "Overseas Koreans Cooperation Center." Among the recipients was Yun Angela, a third-year student in the Department of Far Eastern Studies (Korean Studies division) at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. She was awarded a certificate and a scholarship of $1,200.
Yun Angela demonstrated outstanding academic achievements and was recognized as an exemplary student, which allowed her to successfully pass the highly competitive selection process and become a scholarship recipient. The sponsor of the program is the "Overseas Koreans Cooperation Center" under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea. This organization was established in 2013 to support education and create networks to preserve the identity of Koreans living abroad. It also promotes connections with their historical homeland by organizing visit programs and providing financial support in the form of scholarships for overseas youth and students.
Applicants for the scholarship are Korean students from around the world. The selection process is based on academic achievements, income level, and other criteria. This year, several students from Kazakhstan were selected as scholarship recipients, each receiving a grant of $1,200.
Once again, Yun Angela has proven her high level of knowledge in Korean Studies by successfully passing the rigorous selection process. Her achievement serves as an inspiring example for all students in the department.
