Visit to the high-mountain skating rink of the Medeo sports complex

On February 20, 2025, master's students of Baku State University and Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, studying within the framework of the dual-degree educational program of the master's degree "7M04212 - Maritime and Energy Law", visited the famous high-altitude skating rink "Medeo" in Almaty. The visit was organized within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) No. 3 "Good Health and Well-Being" and was aimed at familiarizing with the history of the skating rink, its impact on the development of winter sports and the ecology of the region.

The event was organized by the Head of the Department of Customs, Financial and Environmental Law Kuanalieva G.A., the coordinator of the double-degree education in the Master's program "7M04212 - Maritime and Energy Law" Professor Aygarinova G.T., as well as the adviser Rasheva G.K. The participants included graduate students of Baku State University: Amirli A., Ibrahimzade L., Mammadova S., Mirzayeva S., Tayarli S., Khuseynova A., Khuseynov A., as well as graduate students of the Kazakh National University named after al-Farabi: Zhunis A., Abilova D., Nagmanov N.,

During the excursion, the graduate students learned about the history of the construction of the Medeo skating rink, which is a unique sports facility of global significance. The complex's employees told about the achievements of athletes, the world records set, and the importance of the skating rink for the popularization of winter sports in Kazakhstan.

Particular attention was paid to the environmental aspects of the rink's operation, in particular the artificial ice-making system, the use of natural resources and environmental conservation measures. The graduate students also had the opportunity to enjoy the atmosphere of this iconic sports facility, which combines modern infrastructure and the unique nature of the mountainous region.

The visit to the Medeo skating rink allowed the participants not only to get acquainted with the history and significance of this sports complex, but also to understand the importance of sustainable development and ecology in preserving such objects. The participants expressed gratitude to the organizers for the opportunity to visit one of the most iconic places in Almaty.
