Young scholars of the Faculty of International Relations organized a creative master class on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals

On February 25, 2025, a master class dedicated to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and their impact on global politics was held at the Faculty of International Relations of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.
The event was organized by first-year master’s students (English department) as part of their pedagogical practice at the Department of International Relations and World Economy. The master class brought together students, faculty members, and the faculty administration.
Undergraduate and MA students, as well as representatives of the faculty’s academic and administrative staff, participated in the event. Among the invited guests were the supervisor of the pedagogical practice, L.F. Delovarova, curators PhD L.T. Isova and A.T. Kulbayeva, and the Head of the Department of International Relations, PhD G.S. Baikushikova.
The event’s program included both theoretical and interactive formats.
After registration and an introductory speech, participants took part in the “SDG-Themed Origami” group task, where each team created an origami figure representing one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and explained its significance. This activity provided a deeper understanding of the importance of the SDGs and their connection to global challenges. Following this, students presented their research and presentations on the implementation of the SDGs in various countries, allowing for discussions on best practices and key trends in their application.
The final part of the master class featured a feedback session, during which participants shared their impressions, discussed current issues, and explored prospects for further engagement with sustainable development topics. The event was noted for its dynamic and productive atmosphere, which contributed not only to gaining new knowledge but also to developing practical teamwork skills. At the end of the event, participants took a group photo and received commemorative souvenirs symbolizing the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
The event was organized by Delovarova L.F., first-year master’s students Aigerim Akshalova and Dayana Turarbekova, with active support from fellow master’s students Fatima Khamzaeva and Akmaral Erlan.
The organizers express their gratitude to all those who participated in the master class, supported the initiative of the master’s students, and contributed to its success.
This experience became another significant step in the formation of students’ professional competencies and highlighted the importance of awareness of global challenges and sustainable development. The Faculty of International Relations at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University continues its tradition of hosting such events, fostering scientific potential and actively engaging students in addressing global issues.
