Open Day at the Faculty of Oriental Studies, Al-Farabi KazNU: Inspiration and Knowledge

On Wednesday, February 26, 2025, the traditional Open Day event took place at the Faculty of Oriental Studies of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, attracting the future students and schoolteachers. The event was an excellent opportunity for everyone interested in the study of Eastern languages, cultures, and history to learn more about the academic programs, faculty members, and unique opportunities offered by our faculty.
The event began with a welcoming speech by the Dean of the Faculty, N.B. Yem, who talked about the modern knowledge and skills students acquire while studying in the faculty’s programs. Detailed presentations were made about the programs in Indology, Iranian Studies, Arabic Studies, and other disciplines focusing on the countries of Asia and the Middle East.
Among the invited guests were Mr. Sanjay Vedi, the Director of the Swami Vivekananda Indian Cultural Center in Astana, Mr. Tara Chand Nehra, the head of the Incham Kazakhstan association, responsible for Indian cultural and corporate activities in Kazakhstan, Mr. Hossein Aghazadeh, the Director of the Iranian Cultural Center in Almaty, and others. It should be noted that Mr. Sanjay Vedi, Director of the Swami Vivekananda Indian Cultural Center, was awarded the “Labor Distinction” medal by the Rector of Al-Farabi KazNU for his contributions and support of the scientific projects of the Department of Indology at the Department of Middle Eastern and South Asian Studies, as well as for implementing new ideas and initiatives to promote Hindi language research and teaching at the university. Under Mr. Vedi’s leadership, significant work was done to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the field of education between India and Kazakhstan.
Moreover, school graduates and guests had the opportunity to interact with faculty members and students, and get acquainted with each department, and ask questions about the structure of the programs, as well as learn about opportunities for scientific research and international internships. Special attention was given to various educational and cultural projects in which students participate, as well as career prospects after graduation.
The Open Day at the Faculty of Oriental Studies became an important step for future students, providing them with all the necessary knowledge and confidence to choose a direction for further education and professional growth.
