Ethnolinguistics Issues Discussed at the Department of Chinese Studies

On March 4, 2025, an academic seminar titled "Features of Ethnolinguistics in Linguistics" was held at the Department of Chinese Studies, Faculty of Oriental Studies, at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The seminar was conducted by senior lecturer Nurmangazy Kenesovich Abdraev.

During the event, key aspects of ethnolinguistics, the relationship between language and culture, and a comparative analysis of the views of leading scholars such as Edward Sapir, Benjamin Lee Whorf, Yuri Lotman, and modern Chinese and European researchers were discussed.

The seminar consisted of two parts: a theoretical section, which covered key ethnolinguistic concepts, and a discussion section, where participants debated contemporary trends and pressing issues in the field.

At the conclusion of the seminar, participants emphasized the importance of ethnolinguistics in studying national identity and intercultural communication. Special attention was given to the impact of globalization on linguistic processes.

The event became an essential platform for academic exchange and professional development.
