Climate Change Mitigation as a Step Towards Sustainable Development

On February 25, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., the first-year students majoring in "Foreign Philology" and "Designer" (Russian Department) at the Faculty of Philology of Farabi Kazakh National University held an event on the topic: "Climate Change Mitigation as a Step Towards Sustainable Development" within SDG 13: Combating Climate Change.
The event was conducted entirely in English by the first-year PhD student Shaimanov Arman, allowing the participants not only to discuss global environmental issues but also to improve their language skills. During the event, the students explored the key aspects of climate change, its impact on nature and human life, and possible measures to mitigate its negative effects. A special attention was given to the role of universities and youth initiatives in fostering environmental awareness and promoting sustainable development principles.
This event became an important step in advancing sustainable development goals, providing the students with an opportunity to present their research, projects, and ideas on climate change mitigation. During the discussion, the participants told about the ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the importance of environmental education, and the role of the university community in tackling ecological challenges.
Farabi KazNU actively supports students’ initiatives aimed at addressing global issues, including climate change. The university promotes the development of environmentally responsible thinking among students, supports scientific research and projects related to environmental protection, and creates platforms for discussing pressing environmental concerns.
The event, organized by the students, served as a vivid example of youth engagement in solving global environmental problems. It demonstrated not only the students’ active civic stand but also their readiness to build an environmentally sustainable future.
