"Abai and Gender Literature"

On February 25, 2025 at the Faculty of Philology, at the Department of Kazakh Literature and Literary Theory Senior Lecturer A.K. Sargeltaeva held a roundtable discussion on the topic: "Abai and Gender Literature" together with the third-year students of the "Kazakh " major within the framework of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 5). The event aimed at exploring the depictions of men and women in Abai's poetry and Words of Edification, their social roles and analyzing the evolution of female characters and gender equality in Abai's era and modern Kazakh literature, examining the relevance of gender ideas found in Abai’s works in today's context.
In the introductory part, a presentation was given, followed by the screening of a video titled "Women in Abai's Life". In the second part, the students presented their research on the following topics: Erkebayeva Aidana: "The Image of Women in Abai’s Poetry" Zaurbek Aydın: "Abai and Love Lyrics: The Relationship Between Men and Women" , Kaldybek Dilnaz: "Women’s Images in Abai’s Era and Kazakh Literature". After the presentations, they asked questions and shared their opinions. The third part was devoted to intellectual debates on gender topics in literature, encouraging an open discussion among participants.
The roundtable discussion aim was to draw young people's attention to issues of gender equality and the role of women in society through Abai’s works, as well as to foster interest in literature. In the concluding part, Senior Lecturer A.K. Sargeltaeva summarized the different perspectives expressed, comparing female images in literature and real life, and provided a final analysis of the discussion topic.
