The Experience That Changed Me: Studying in Japan

25 march, 2025

My name is Bekbolat Miras, and I am a third-year student at the Faculty of Oriental Studies, Department of Far East Studies. This year, I had a unique opportunity to study in Japan as part of an exchange program.

I studied at Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (TUFS), located in the Fuchu district. The university specializes in foreign language studies, and its convenient campus is equipped with everything necessary for comfortable learning. Classes were conducted in Japanese and English, with a focus on Active Learning—a methodology that engages students in active discussions, group projects, and practical application of knowledge.

In addition to my studies, I immersed myself in Japan’s unique culture. I had the chance to visit Kyoto, Osaka, Nara, and Okinawa, each of which reveals different aspects of the country’s history and modernity. Kyoto impressed me with its old Japan atmosphere, while Osaka amazed me with its dynamic city life.

Of course, there were challenges, especially the language barrier. However, thanks to the support of my professors and new friends, I adapted successfully. This experience enriched me as a person and broadened my horizons. I hope to return to Japan again for further studies and professional growth.
