XIII Republican intellectual contest: “The best linguist”

Announcement

On 31 March 2025, at Al-Farabi  Kazakh National University  the Department of Turkology and Language Theory of the Faculty of Philology holds XІІI Republican intellectual competition: “The best linguist” among undergraduates of higher educational institutions of Kazakhstan.

The main purpose of the competition is:

- to increase the interest of young scientists to linguistics;

- to promote scientific activity of master's students-researchers;

- to expand the spheres of application of the state language in scientific and academic space.

  The participant of the competition can be Master's degree  students studying on language majors.

The competition requirements

Each university conducts the qualifying round independently, selects the best applicants and sends them to participate in the competition.

“ The  best linguist” intellectual contest  consists of 4 stages:

1) Homework: presentation on the topic ‘Linguistics and Artificial Intelligence’.  The participant should fully explain the topic. Time limit  for defence  is  5 minutes.

2) Testing (answers to questions on language theory, genealogical and  typological classification).

3) Linguistic Quiz  (answer the selected questions on the directions of linguistics).

4)  Polyglot  (situational questions).
