A Chinese Student on Life and Studies in Almaty: Language, Friends, and Love for the Mountains

I am Zhengzihan, a first-year student at the Faculty of Oriental Studies at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. I came from China and have been living in Almaty for almost two years. My student life here is very fulfilling and happy.

When I first arrived in Almaty, I didn’t know Russian, so it was quite challenging at first – I had to communicate using gestures. However, thanks to my studies at the preparatory department and university, I made wonderful friends who are always ready to help. The teachers here are very kind, and if I face any difficulties, they always support me. Now I can speak a little Russian and Kazakh.

After entering university, I continue to study both languages diligently. In my free time, I attend Russian language courses to improve my skills. I have also met many Kazakhstani people – they are very friendly, and I enjoy communicating with them.

Almaty is a wonderful city, and I especially love its snowy mountains, where I often go in my free time. The pace of life here is calm, allowing me to enjoy life without rushing. Besides studying, I try to maintain an active lifestyle – I go to the gym to stay in shape. I really like the measured and comfortable rhythm of life in Almaty.
