My Experience with Academic Mobility in KanazawaFarabi University

My Experience with Academic Mobility in Kanazawa

29 march, 2025

My name is Bakdauletkyzy Assel, I’m a 3 year student of Al-Farabi KazNU,  and this year, I had a remarkable opportunity to participate in an academic mobility program and spend a semester in the beautiful city of Kanazawa, Japan. It was an important step in deepening my understanding of the Japanese language and culture, as well as my personal growth.

Studying in Kanazawa was an incredible experience. I was fascinated by the charm of the city’s narrow streets, traditional tea houses, and the beauty of Kenrokuen Garden. I studied at one of the city’s top universities, where the professors were incredibly kind and supportive.

The classes were engaging and informative. I gained valuable knowledge about the Japanese language, history, culture, and politics. This experience was truly enriching for me.

At first, adapting to a new environment was challenging, but the hospitality of the people of Kanazawa helped me feel at home. The university campus was spacious and comfortable, making it easy for me to adjust. The university frequently organized events such as kakizome (New Year’s calligraphy), Kaga Yuzen (traditional Japanese dyeing), and concerts, which allowed me to engage more deeply with Japanese culture.

We also had the opportunity to visit universities and cultural centers in Kanazawa for free with our student ID. This gave me a chance to explore the city’s cultural richness up close.

In Kanazawa, I made many friends from different countries. We often explored the city’s attractions together and shared our impressions. These friendships became a priceless part of my experience.

Studying at a Japanese university not only improved my academic level but also boosted my confidence. Discussions and group work helped me enhance my Japanese language skills. Participating in projects related to Japanese culture and history allowed me to apply my knowledge in practice and gain a deeper understanding of Japanese society.

I am deeply grateful to Al-Farabi Kazakh National University for this opportunity. This experience strengthened my passion for Japan and inspired me to continue exploring its language and culture. I am confident that the knowledge and skills I gained in Kanazawa will be a strong foundation for my future.
