28 march, 2025

On March 28, 2025,  the first-year master’s students  of   “Translation Studies” major, Ermekkyzy Ainur  and Abkanov Daniyar, conducted a curatorial hour for  the third-year students of  “Translation Studies” major  group as a  part of their teaching practice. The discussion focused on supporting mothers facing difficult life circumstances and the role of society in ensuring gender equality.

The  special guest speaker, Mayra Omirzakovna Tursynbayeva, coordinator of “Mother’s Home” No. 1 in Almaty was invited to the event. Additionally, senior lecturers of the Department of Foreign Philology and Translation Studies, Bayeli Asel  and Alpybayeva Aigul, contributed to the organization and facilitation of the curatorial hour.

During the discussion, key aspects of supporting mothers were examined, including access to education and employment, social assistance programs, the role of NGOs and volunteer movements, as well as psychological support. Special emphasis was placed on gender equality as one of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 5. Gender Equality ), which aims to ensure equal opportunities for women and men, eliminate discrimination, and support women in vulnerable situations.

Mayra Omirzakovna shared her firsthand experience of working with women facing hardships, provided insights into the activities of “Mother’s Home,” and discussed the existing support programs available for mothers in need.

Students actively engaged in the discussion, sharing their thoughts and proposing possible solutions to the challenges women face in difficult situations. Topics such as family counseling, flexible employment, and raising awareness about support measures were also addressed.

The event was conducted in Kazakh and Russian, allowing students not only to delve deeper into the topic but also to enhance their language skills.

The curatorial hour helped students recognize the importance of supporting mothers and reflect on how individuals and society as a whole can contribute to improving their circumstances.
