The Department of Chinese studies held a scientific seminar on the topic “Pragmatic functions of loanwords in the Kazakh, Russian and Chinese languages”

On April 8, 2025, the Department of Chinese studies of the Faculty of Oriental Studies of the Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabi held a scientific seminar on the topic “Pragmatic functions of loanwords in the Kazakh, Russian and Chinese languages”. The event was organized by the Department of Chinese studies as part of the research work of the 2nd year doctoral student Pak Raissa Leonidovna, specialty 8D02305 Foreign Philology (Oriental Languages).

The following issues were discussed at the scientific seminar:

- The concept of borrowings and their role in language

- Pragmatic aspects of borrowings in the Kazakh, Russian and Chinese languages

- Examples and analysis of current cases

During the seminar, the participants got acquainted with various aspects of how borrowings affect the Chinese language and culture. A discussion was held with the participation of the department's teachers and doctoral students, and following the seminar, a decision was made to continue research in this area.
