A memorial event dedicated to academician Omirbek Zholdasbekov was held at KazNU
A memorial event dedicated to the prominent state and public figure, outstanding scientist, and academician Omirbek Zholdasbekov was held at the Kazakh National University named after al-Farabi. Flowers were laid at the statue of the academician installed on the university campus, and participants paid tribute to his memory.
The event was attended by the descendants and contemporaries of Omirbek Zholdasbekov, as well as university professors, lecturers, and students. Those present recalled the significant contribution of the scientist to the development of domestic science and education and shared their memorable stories about him.
In his speech, the Deputy Chairman of the Board of KazNU, Yerkin Duyseynov, noted:
“Omirbek Zholdasbekov, a beloved figure of our country, dedicated his life to the development of education and science. From 1970 to 1986, he served as rector of the university and made a significant contribution to the development of the institution. Under his leadership, the foundation of the university campus was laid, and new laboratories, departments, and research centers were opened. The academician’s scientific discoveries gained recognition not only in our country but also in the international scientific community. Thanks to his tireless work, many mechanical engineers were trained,” he emphasized.
During the event, participants highlighted the academician’s role in the development of engineering sciences and the higher education system, and they particularly noted that his students are now successfully working in various fields across the country.
The event was organized to honor and promote the scientist’s rich legacy among the younger generation.
Under the leadership of Omirbek Zholdasbekov, new laboratories and research centers were established at KazNU named after al-Farabi, which made a significant contribution to the development of quality education and science, aligning with SDG 4: Quality Education. The academician’s scientific discoveries enabled the implementation of innovative methods in the educational process and improved the quality of education. Moreover, Omirbek Zholdasbekov’s research and scientific work contributed to the development of industrialization and innovation in the country, thus supporting the achievement of SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure. Thus, his scientific legacy brought important changes not only to education but also to the economy and industry.
