The Department of Far Eastern Studies at the Faculty of Oriental Studies, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, has achieved a significant academic milestone by being awarded a prestigious grant from the Academy of Korean Studies (Republic of Korea) to implement a five-year international research project.

The project, titled "Establishment of a Database (DB) and Utilization Platform for Korean Studies in the Central Asian Region," is aimed at developing a digital database and platform dedicated to the humanities-based topography of Korean studies in Central Asia. It will encompass key areas of research into the history, culture, and identity of the Korean diaspora in the region, while also creating innovative research tools and educational resources that contribute to the advancement of Korean studies on a global scale.

Notably, the competition attracted leading universities and research institutions from around the world. However, only two institutions were selected as winners, one of which is Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. This recognition highlights the university’s strong international academic standing and the professionalism of the faculty members in the Department of Far Eastern Studies.

The project will run from 2025 to 2030 and includes extensive international collaboration, field research, academic conferences, scholarly publications, the promotion of academic mobility, and the active involvement of young researchers in cutting-edge scientific initiatives.

Once again, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University has reaffirmed its status as one of the leading research and educational centers in the region, making a substantial contribution to strengthening academic dialogue between Central Asia and South Korea.
