A student team from the Department of Mechanics of the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University took part in the international startup competition “Finding Innovative and Creative Solutions (FICS 2025)” by special invitation. The event was held in Baku, Azerbaijan, at the Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU).

The KazNU team consisted of students from the Department of Mechanics — Nurkadam Aitbay, Askhat Kalzhan, Ramazan Nalibek, and Yelzhas Yesen. The team was supervised by Birlik Sagitzhanov, senior lecturer of the Department of Mechanics.

The FICS 2025 competition was jointly organized by AzTU and the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Pakistan. This prestigious international platform brings together talented students from around the world to present innovative solutions to real-world challenges.

A key feature of the competition is its alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The KazNU team’s project, titled “ROBOSPIDER”, focuses on intelligent robotic solutions and addresses several SDGs — particularly SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) and SDG 4 (Quality Education).

Among the 65 participating teams, the “ROBOSPIDER” project was recognized as the “Best Innovative Startup Project”. As a result, the team was awarded a grant invitation to participate in the final stage, which will take place in Pakistan.

Participation of the Department of Mechanics in such a high-level event highlights the university’s growing contribution to global scientific innovation and its commitment to advancing the SDGs.
