SDG 15 – Life on Land: KazNU Presented a Project on the Conservation of the Sievers Apple at the Congress

From May 31 to June 9, 2025, the Eurasian Congress of Economic Geographers is being held in the cities of Osh and Bishkek with the participation of scientists from over 15 countries.

Al-Farabi Kazakh National University was represented by Candidate of Geographical Sciences, Associate Professor Tursynkul Amankeldievna Bazarbayeva. During a sectional session, she delivered a presentation on “Implementation of the ALMA-KIKA Project for the Conservation of the Sievers Apple.” The project is being implemented with the financial support of the German Federal Environmental Foundation (DBU, Germany).

In her presentation, Bazarbayeva highlighted the key directions and outcomes of the international initiative aimed at preserving the Sievers Apple—a relic species considered the ancestor of all cultivated apple varieties. Special attention was given to biodiversity conservation, involvement of local communities in the protection of natural heritage, and international cooperation in the field of environmental sustainability.
