A branch of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University has begun operations in Omsk — it is the first branch of a foreign university in Russia.
The branch was opened on the basis of F. M. Dostoevsky Omsk State University.
The opening was announced by the Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation, Mikhail Mishustin, during his visit to the region. He emphasized that the project symbolizes the high level of trust and mutual respect between the educational systems of the two countries.
The academic process will begin on September 1, 2025. The first intake will include 75 students enrolled in the following bachelor's programs:
– Kazakh Language and Literature
– Customs Studies
– International Law
Instruction will be provided in Kazakh, Russian, and English.
The Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation is providing support for equipping the educational infrastructure.
The event was attended by:
– From the Kazakh side: Minister of Science and Higher Education Sayasat Nurbek, Rector of KazNU Zhanseit Tuimebayev
– From the Russian side: Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Valery Falkov, Governor of Omsk Region Vitaly Khotsenko, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific-Technological Development of Omsk Region Alexander Koltsov, and Acting Rector of Omsk State University Ivan Krott
Guests toured the academic building, visited the admissions office, and the scientific library.
Rector of KazNU Zhanseit Tuimebayev presented the history of the branch’s establishment, while Sayasat Nurbek spoke about the activities of Russian universities in Kazakhstan.
The official opening of the branch took place on November 27, 2024, with the participation of the Presidents of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation.
