Roundtable discussion dedicated to the Horizon Europe call “Improving Disaster Risk Management and Enhancing the Self-Sufficiency and Resilience of Operations in Support of Strengthening Resilience”

On August 29, 2025, the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Management of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University hosted a roundtable discussion dedicated to the Horizon Europe call “Improving Disaster Risk Management and Enhancing the Self-Sufficiency and Resilience of Operations in Support of Strengthening Resilience.”

The main goal of the event was to bring together key stakeholders in the fields of water resources management, climate change, and disaster risk reduction in Kazakhstan. The keynote guest was Dr. Fredrik Hufthoff from the Netherlands, who has extensive experience in disaster risk management and will serve as the coordinator of the Horizon Europe project proposal.

The roundtable was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Strategic Planning and Operations Command Center of the MES of Kazakhstan, the Institute of Geography and Water Security, Taraz National University of Water Resources and Irrigation, as well as scholars from the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology.

The discussions took place at a high professional level and successfully achieved their objectives, laying the groundwork for preparing a strong and competitive project proposal.
