A New Academic Year – A New Milestone!

On September 2, 2025, the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Management of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University held a traditional ceremonial meeting dedicated to the beginning of the new academic year. This day became the first page of student life for young freshmen, marking the start of a journey toward great aspirations.
At the meeting, the Dean of the Faculty, Candidate of Geographical Sciences, Associate Professor Aliya Sagyndykkyzy Aktymbaeva, delivered a congratulatory speech, encouraging students to make the most of every moment of the four years that will lead them to the peak of knowledge.
The heads of departments and leading professors also wished the younger generation success, emphasizing the importance of passion for science and the pursuit of knowledge.
Next, the first career-oriented lectures were held at the Department of Cartography and Geoinformatics.
The main content of the meeting consisted of scientific lectures on the educational programs “6B07301–Geodesy and Cartography”, “6B07302–Geoinformatics” and “6B05206–Natural and Technogenic Hazards” delivered by leading scholars: Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor G.K. Zhangulova; Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Professor R.T. Bekseitova; Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Professor A.G. Koshim; and PhD, Associate Professor E.Kh. Kakimzhanov.
These lectures provided students with an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the scientific foundations of their chosen specialties and to define their professional orientation.
After the meeting, first-year students, together with their curator-advisors, attended an orientation session on the topic “Structure and Features of the Educational Program” and familiarized themselves with the academic learning system.
In addition, as part of the university orientation program, students visited the Kazakhstan–China Joint Laboratory Center and the Al-Farabi KazNU Library. They also toured the University Museum, where they learned about the history and achievements of the institution, and were introduced to the services of the “Keremet” Student Service Center (SSС).
Thus, the first day of the new academic year was not only an introduction event for first-year students but also a new gateway to the world of science and knowledge. This event became a great opportunity for young people to adapt to university life, gain a deeper understanding of their future profession, and appreciate the scientific and innovative potential of KazNU.
According to the faculty administration, the trust placed in young freshmen is a valuable contribution to the future scientific and professional development of the country.
