Al-Farabi KazNU marked the 85th anniversary of Professor V.S. Cherednichenko, a distinguished scholar in meteorology

On September 1, 2025, the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Management of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University hosted a ceremonial event dedicated to the 85th anniversary of Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology, Vladimir Sergeevich Cherednichenko.

Vladimir Sergeevich Cherednichenko is one of the leading meteorologists of Kazakhstan and the CIS, who has devoted more than half a century of his life to science and the training of specialists in meteorology and hydrology. His academic and teaching career includes participation in an Antarctic expedition, leadership of the Kazhydromet Computing Center, work at KazNIGMI, as well as many years of teaching at Al-Farabi KazNU. Under his leadership, the Department of Meteorology became one of the leading academic units of the university.

The celebrant received heartfelt congratulations from colleagues, students, and alumni. On behalf of the Rector, Vladimir Sergeevich was presented with a congratulatory address and a large silver medal, while the university’s trade union committee honored his many years of dedicated service with a commemorative gift.

The warm atmosphere of the anniversary celebration highlighted the deep respect and recognition of Professor Cherednichenko’s contributions as an outstanding scientist, teacher, and mentor to several generations of specialists in Kazakhstan’s hydrometeorological service.
