On September 24, 2025, the Central Scientific Library “Gylym Ordasy” in Almaty hosted a cultural event within the framework of the initiative “Partnerships for Sustainable Development” according to the objectives of the Sustainable Development Goals. The event was organized by the Cultural Representation of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Almaty.
The program featured an exhibition of Iranian art and manuscripts, as well as the screening of the feature film “In the Arms of the Tree” (2023) directed by Babak Khajehpasha. The event was attended by the Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Almaty, Suna Ahmadi, and the Cultural Counselor Hossein Aghazadeh, who delivered congratulatory speech together with the library’s leadership. Among the guests were teachers and students of the Faculty of Oriental Studies, staff of the National Library, and representatives of various cultural communities of the city.
The film “In the Arms of the Tree” became the central highlight of the evening: it touches upon the delicate theme of the relationship between husband and wife, its reverberations on those around them, raises questions about the preservation of spiritual traditions, and employs profound symbolism, which resonated deeply with the audience. After the screening, the guests were invited to enjoy refreshments, which provided additional opportunities for informal communication and the exchange of impressions. The evening was held in a warm and friendly atmosphere, underscoring the importance of cultural exchange and cooperation between Kazakhstan and Iran.
